South Korea is one of the last developing countries in the world to lift its indoor mask mandate today (30 January 2023) with only countries such as Egypt, Japan and Taiwan continuing their mask mandates as of the writing of this article.
Despite face mask manufacturers now stating on their boxes the masks are supplied in that the surgical masks, the most commonly worn by people during and after the pandemic,
…“will not provide any protection against Covid-19 (Coronavirus) or other viruses or contaminants”… “Wearing an ear loop mask does not reduce the risk of contracting any disease or infection.”
The cynic might argue that mask companies that put such a disclaimer onto their packaging are just fearing a lawsuit in sue-happy countries like the United States, but the flip side to that argument might be mask companies know they can’t prove masks ever did or ever will prevent the transmission of Covid-19 in a court of law.
Regardless it is a happy day in South Korea even if people are so now conditioned to wear masks without needing to as dictated by the government, they likely will continue to wear them due to the old human desire to not stand out but rather conform and blend into society so as to not draw too much attention to oneself out of fear and anxiety.
Monday the country reported 7,416 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest level in about seven months. This decline happening when the mask mandate exempted those in restaurants when eating for the past several months. You will notice many South Koreans wearing masks in line at a cafe or waiting to be seated in a restaurant then take them off at the table, enjoy their meals and very often leave the restaurant without their mask on, and the Covid number continued to go down.
All of this to say that hopefully this is indicative of the herd immunity needed to curb the detrimental effects of the Covid-19 that medical advisors such an Anthony Fauci spoke of 3 years ago as the pandemic ripped around the world.
But with mask manufacturers now disclosing on their packaging that their masks “will not provide any protection against Covid-19” and with the recent undercover video of a Pfizer Executive stating that the Pfizer company decided to ‘Mutate’ COVID via ‘Directed Evolution’ (aka, Gain of Function) for company to continue profiting off of vaccines, it is only natural to be skeptical of any sort of continued mask or even Covid-19 vaccine mandate in the foreseeable future.
How can one not be hesitant of such mandates with this information being on the public record?
